«safe water. with women!»

PeaceWomen Across the Globe presents the exhibition «safe water. with women!» on the occasion of the 6th World Water Forum 2012 in Marseille, France. The exhibition portraits 10 women water experts who have created regional strategies for the preservation and sustainable use of water, thus contributing for social justice and peace in their communities.

The UN resolution A/HCR/RES/18/1 «The Human Right to Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation», adopted by the Human Rights Council in October 2011, is an important milestone in global water politics. Although 2/3 of the earth consists of water, many regions of the world face an acute water shortage as a result of climate changes and resource conflicts. With the resolution, the General Assembly declares that access to safe and clean drinking water is a human right and calls on member states to support regions struggling with water shortage.

Women are affected in particular, as they are often responsible for providing water for their families. In many countries, women are in the forefront of struggles to protect safe water and use their creativity and skills to develop ways of sustainable use of natural resources, especially water. The poster exhibition aims to make the expertise of women for water and peace visible and to give an insight into their work.

«safe water. with women!» is a collection of 12 posters, consisting of 2 cover posters and 10 posters highlighting impressive portraits of women water experts from 7 different countries.

The posters are available as a bilingual edition in English and French. You can find an overview of the posters here.
