| On October 14, 2011 the International Forum «Human Rights and International Criminal Law: Compared Experiences and Challenges in Uruguay» took place in Uruguay. It was organized by PeaceWomen from Uruguay, Beatriz Benzano and Belela Herrera. The aforementioned Forum was held in Sala de Conferencias de IMPO (Uruguay). |
Outstanding panelists from Uruguay and other countries attended the aforementioned Forum.
The International Forum was sponsored by the Supreme Court of Justice in Uruguay; the Inter - American Committee of Jurists; Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Office, Peace Women Across the Globe (PWAG) and the Inter- American Institute of Human Rights.
The International Forum was declared of Ministerial interest by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
There were four tables where the main topics were:
- International Criminal Law and Human Rights (International Human Rights Law, Rome Statute and International Criminal Court)
- Human Rights and International State Responsibility (Jurisprudence from the Inter – American Court of Human Rights).
- Human Rights and Gender (Sexual Violence and crimes against humanity: background and international jurisprudence).
- Human Rights and Public Policies (mechanisms to make the state fulfill its obligations in Human Rights)
Ruth –Gaby Vermot –Mangold, President, PeaceWomen Across the Globe (PWAG) and María Julia Moreyra, Regional Coordinator, PWAG, sent a letter which was read in the Forum, where they highlighted the importance of this event.
