Taking a stand for feminist peace: Statements

We take a public stand on peace-related events and issues, together with like-minded organisations or in solidarity with members of our global network Feminists Connecting for Peace. We also participate in consultations. Our feminist understanding of peace and the focus on women’s and human rights are central to this political work.

PeaceWomen Across the Globe is an internationally active feminist peace organisation based in Bern.

Breaking the cycles of violence: Kenya

Struggles over land, resources or political power are the main reasons for the violent conflicts that regularly flare up in certain regions of Kenya. Although many women are active in peacebuilding within their families and communities, they lack recognition, specific knowledge and access to resources and larger networks.

Reintegrating violence-affected women into society: Burundi

For decades, Burundi has been rocked by recurring armed conflicts. Women are particularly affected: more than half experience gender-based violence in the course of their lives. We support the healing, social reintegration and economic independence of these women.

Women demand security – and peace: Ukraine

In 2021, we launched a pilot programme with women in conflict-affected communities in eastern Ukraine, who have been affected by rampant poverty, social insecurity and gender-based violence for years. In our Ukraine programme they worked together on strategies for safety in their daily lives and equal participation in peacebuilding. We continue building peace with them even during the war.
